(posted by [mailto: H-Clone] - 06:28)

Well, it seems the ineviatable has happened... SMS Power has exceeded it's bandwidth. Racking up about 4 gigabytes of transfers every day, that's hardly suprising. So currently they're looking for a server that can cope with 4 gig per day, so if you can help, go to the site and drop them a mail. In the meantime, download from the Mirrors.

Also in SMS Power news, todays release is Solomon Key for the Master System. This is a famous NES title, and I for one didn't know it was converted to the SMS. Enjoy, and remember to use the mirrors.[[Category:NES]]

As stated with the last release of PASOFAMI, everything is in Japanese, so I can't tell you what's new. Good luck, brother. If you haven't noticed, PASOFAMI has been one of the most frequently updated NES emulators of late. I just wonder what Andou is gonna do when he runs out of letter suffixes.

This version adds huge speed-ups and changes the "-info" commandline to "-credits", in addition to all the newisms of the original Linux version. Sephiroth, the DOS porter, is also celebrating his 21st birthday today, so congrats go out to him. Just don't choke on that He-Man and the Masters of the Universe ice cream cake. In case you didn't know, PASOFAMI is a shareware NES emulator for Windows, and utilizes the FDS and .fam ROM formats. The docs and homepage are all written in Japanese, so I can't really elaborate much further. Will PASOFAMI ever be elevated to 1.2 status? Will Batman and Robin ever get out of this jam alive? Will people actually pay a $350 deposit to rent a Dreamcast? Stay tuned hip-hoppers, stay tuned...

Here's the email text:

"Been a while since the last update, this can account for my laziness, which is one of my better qualities ;). Anyway, this past Friday, I was on my way to an Oribtal concert with my brother, and I met PrOxY at the train station! Seems we were going to the same place... This was kinda cool since we haven't seen eachother in person in more than a year..... Anyway, we were able to actually talk, and see the whole prespective of things, and what not. Right now, things are looking good. The application is fully threaded. We have basically completed the DirectX graphics plugin, and I'm almost done with a Windows GDI plugin. Why use the GDI engine... I have no idea, but it's there anyway. We've made alot of progress concerning the NES memory, things are looking a lot cleaner there. We got rid of the silly .ini file, and now everything is dumped ever so nicely into the Windows registry, just like it should be. Right now our main focus is getting a decent scanline-renderer working properly. Once that is in place, we'll know exactly what needs to be completed and or fixed for the next release... Sit tight :)"

We are all looking forward to it.

(posted by [mailto:anubisII@iname.com anubis-II] - 21:03)

Being quite possibly the only staff member who loves the NES over just about every other console, I jumped at the chance to post this =). For all you NES game music lovers out there, a new format called NESM has been created. Based on the concept of SI D files for the C64, a NESM .nsf file includes all the music code ripped from the game and code to play the songs, as well as some title/artist info. As of this time, there are 2 decent players for .nsf files. The first, NESamp by Bananmos, is a Winamp plugin that's rather buggy and has an interface that I don't care for personally. My recommendation is that you grab nosefart instead, a little utility by Matt Conte of Nofrendo fame. The sound produced by nosefart is incredibly clo se to the real deal, and I'm sure Nofrendo itself will sound just as good if not better once Matt finishes it up. A .nsf archive has been created at Zophar's Domain, so head over there for some .nsf's to listen to.
